iPhone Development

September 1st, 2009

Baldhead Systems has become a certified registered Apple iPhone Development shop. Jason Coulls, Baldhead’s Chief Technology Officer, is leading the charge in creating an iPhone centric programming team at Baldhead.

“This is an exciting space that we’ve paid a great deal of attention to over the past several months, as iPhone adoption has begun to soar. Given our history in the wireless applications and embedded systems space, it was a natural evolution. It’s now our mandate to become Canada’s premiere iPhone development shop,” said Coulls.

PFM Merges with Baldhead Systems

August 1st, 2009

One of Toronto’s premiere hardware and computer infrastructure maintenance companies (PFM) has merged with one of Toronto’s finest software developers (Baldhead Systems Inc.), established in 1994.

The merger will mean that Baldhead Systems can provide computer hardware, peripherals and support, hosting, network support, and infrastructure management to its existing client base.

“IT support often radiates software development and support work.  As such research and development opportunities that can benefit business processes through automation are quite often identified at the network and technical support level,” said Jay Jordon, Baldhead’s Chief Operating Officer.  “Patrick Merjo’s team is a new set of feet on the street for us and obviously a welcome addition to Baldhead.”

Patrick Merjo, Founder of PFM and Vice President of Technical Support at Baldhead, said:  “Historically, Baldhead referred clients to a select collection of hardware vendors when these requests arose. Jay expressed some concern regarding after market support from many of these various vendors. I thought it interesting that he was more concerned regarding the support side of the equation compared to pricing, which is typically the sole focus. It was then that we realized - given PFM’s penchant for premium support and service regarding networks and hardware and Baldhead’s focus on the same factors with respect to software - the marriage would be an excellent fit for both companies.”

Position in Byte Media Sold

July 1st, 2009

Baldhead Systems Inc. has sold its equity position in Byte Media, but retains the subcontract to service Byte’s York Region Transit digital signage account.

Map2Mobility Inc. acquired Baldhead Systems’ 22.5% stake in Byte Media this July.

“Baldhead was looking to streamline its diversified interests in anticipation of focusing on its core IT consultancy practice. The timing was right and selling our position in this digital signage venture made perfect sense.”

“Given the repatriation of large aspects of the IT outsourcing industry back to North America, demand in the industry is rapidly increasing. It was apparent that we needed the bandwidth for our core practice, given the obvious increase in deal flow. Furthermore, John Bush has been involved in a number of transactions with us in the past and understands Baldhead’s capacity to produce industrial strength intellectual property. We will continue to remain involved in the deal from a consulting perspective,” said Jay Jordon, Baldhead’s Chief Operating Officer.

T.J. Donnelly takes CEO role at IT firm and technology innovator Baldhead Systems Inc.

July 1st, 2009

Former CEO of Breakaway Tours, T.J. Donnelly was responsible for building the company into Canada's largest student travel firm. Donnelly sold the business to FirstChoice Travel out of the United Kingdom (the U.K.’s largest travel company) in 2005. FirstChoice then merged with TUI Travel PLC, out of Germany, to become the world's largest travel company. Donnelly headed up TUI’s Canadian operations until 2008.

In July of 2009, Donnelly became a partner and CEO of Baldhead Systems (Toronto, Canada). It was an easy transition, as Donnelly worked with Baldhead in the earlier days of Breakaway Tours with technological ideas and proposals.

“The Baldhead team executed on many of the technology oriented concepts that were part of my vision for building the Breakaway business model. Our success was largely due to the efficiency tools and marketing techniques that were possible because of the technology oriented foundation we built with Baldhead. I guess you could say I liked the Baldhead approach so much, I bought the company!" Donnelly says with a laugh.

"Now I'm cutting my teeth on the technology sector, because I see the space as due for a massive upward correction. These days, many small to medium-sized businesses need to do more with fewer finances and resources. Frankly, technology is one of the only ways to achieve that goal. These companies need to be shown how IT can add revenue to their bottom line while decreasing their ongoing cost of operation. That type of consultation requires vision versus expenditure. We have that type of expertise here at Baldhead."
